We were present at the COPE Mallorca 2024 Awards: A real Luxury

On 25 November, I had the pleasure of attending, along with part of my team, the eagerly awaited COPE Mallorca 2024 Awards gala, held in the elegant surroundings of the Sala Magna of the Es Molí d’Es Comte restaurant in Palma. I am a regular contributor to COPE Mallorca and it is always a pleasure to be able to share moments like this with colleagues from the station.
COPE Mallorca: A Gala of reference in the Balearic Islands
The COPE Mallorca Awards, also known as Premis Populars, have been a historical reference in the Balearic Islands since their creation in 1980. This event has become an annual meeting point to celebrate the excellence and social commitment of people, institutions and companies that, with their dedication and effort, make our society better.
In this 45th edition, the event brought together more than 300 attendees, including the president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, the bishop of Mallorca, Sebastià Taltavull, and numerous local authorities. The gala was hosted by journalist Juan Andrés Ruiz.
The 2024 Laureates
Every year, COPE Mallorca highlights different people and institutions for their significant contribution to society. This year, I had the pleasure of witnessing the work of five main award winners, all of them examples of perseverance, commitment and innovation:
Lila, recycled games
This educational and solidarity project has managed to bring recycled games to children in both Sierra Leone and Mallorca, promoting values of sustainability and solidarity. It was very inspiring to learn more about their work during the gala.
Studium, Chamber Choir
This Mallorcan choir, directed by Carles Ponseti, was awarded for preserving and disseminating the musical heritage of our island. Their intervention was particularly moving and culturally enriching.
Ingo Volckmann
The president of Atlético Baleares was awarded for encouraging women’s football and for modernising the Balearic Stadium. Without a doubt, he is a clear example of leadership and passion for sport.
Can Company
This family business keeps Mallorcan culinary traditions alive, with a blend of craftsmanship and innovation. Its contribution to the local economy is admirable.
Norberto Alcover SJ
This priest, philosopher and writer received a well-deserved recognition for his long intellectual career, providing a critical and profound vision on various aspects of our society.
In addition, the gala included a special recognition of Journalism and Communication for veteran photojournalists Joan Llompart ‘Torrelló’, Tomás Monserrat and Vicenç Matas, key figures in the graphic history of the Balearic Islands.
My experience at the COPE Mallorca Awards
Participating in events like this allows us to see first-hand how the Mallorcan community comes together to highlight fundamental values such as solidarity, social commitment and innovation. Personally, as a long-time contributor to COPE Mallorca, I was proud to be able to share this special evening with the people who are dedicated to improving our environment.
The relaxed atmosphere after the gala was also a perfect opportunity to chat with old acquaintances and make new connections, thus reinforcing my professional and personal commitment to the local community.
